Shanta Gold (SHG) has recently announced that “after further engagement and having taken advice from its financial advisors, the board has concluded that there is no merit in continuing discussions with Shandong and Chaarat, which both parties have accepted”. That ended current bid talks and sees the shares currently down to a 10.5p offer price. However, the company added that it is now “focused on optimising and growing its quality portfolio to continue to deliver long-term sustainable returns for shareholders with a number of value catalysts in train for 2023”. We consider that they can re-spark these shares back to the 16p+ of last year.
Gold producer in the Philippines, Metals Exploration (MTL) has issued a second quarter update including that it “is well positioned for a strong second half of 2022 as the grade in the mine improves once the higher grade ore in Stage 3 is accessed”.
Fresnillo (FRES) has announced first quarter of the year production including attributable silver production of 13.28 million ounces and gold production of 0.15 million ounces and that, despite challenges, “2022 guidance remains unchanged”.
Centamin (CEY) has announced “the final quarter delivered what was a highly successful 2021” and that it is now looking forward to delivering on a clear roadmap to growing and unlocking further value from the Sukari gold mine in Egypt and its exploration portfolio. The shares have responded up to 93.425p and look to have much further to go.

This morning, Kefi Minerals (KEFI) announced a £2.125million placement to fund its final takeover of the Tulu Kapi gold project, from Nyota Minerals (NYO). The company then followed this with an update concerning director purchases of 4.8million shares, worth roughly £72,000. With a clearly defined plan for the rest of 2014, which incorporates Kefi’s existing cash balance of £2million, does this presenting a buying opportunity for resource speculators on AIM?
